About you:

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company Europe Limited (CTE) seeks an experienced and business minded in-house lawyer to provide a broad range of legal counselling, advice and services to CTE and other Cooper Tire Group companies within the EMEA region. The successful candidate will have excellent academic credentials and a blend of experience working in a well-respected law firm and/or in-house roles at a level sufficient to prepare the candidate for the responsibilities of this role. The successful candidate will be expected to have post qualified experience, coupled with the demonstrated ability and confidence to function with limited supervision.

Responsiblities:

• Function as a member of the CTE leadership team and as the Cooper Tire Group’s regional general counsel for the EMEA region, providing legal support to CTE and other EMEA region subsidiaries in a wide variety of practice areas, including without limitation: commercial contracts; compliance; environmental issues; business and real estate transactions; import/export issues; corporate governance; litigation management; labour, employment and pension issues; anti-trust and competition matters; regulatory matters; privacy, digital and social media usage; risk management; and intellectual property issues.
• Serves as sole regional counsel and part of the global legal team of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, a publicly-traded US Company.
• Counsel internal clients on applicable laws and regulations, evaluating and mitigating risk appropriately, and ensuring compliance with Cooper Tire Group policies.
• Participate in the businesses' product development and marketing strategy to ensure compliance with legal policies/procedures and substantive legal issues, including data privacy, advertising law, trademark and copyright law.
• Interpret and assist in formulating policies and procedures relating to laws, rules and regulations applicable to the EMEA region, including the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
• Play a leading role in supporting the Company's global ethics and compliance programs, including anti-bribery/anti-corruption compliance programs and the administration of any employee hotline and other ethics investigations arising within the EMEA region.
• Participate in the establishment and implementation of employee training and risk mitigation programs.
• Manage directly and through outside counsel all legal claims and litigated matters involving EMEA region subsidiaries of Cooper Tire, driving efficient, effective and practical use of outside counsel and management of outside counsel costs.
• Help structure, negotiate and draft a diverse range of commercial agreements and other complex transactions with both domestic and global parties.
• Support and assist in promoting Cooper Tire Group strategic initiatives and best practices.
• Support global activities and initiatives of the Cooper legal team.
• Proactively collaborate across regions with other members of the Legal Department outside counsel and other non-traditional legal resources, and the business team, and take a leadership role on both legal and business projects.

Qualifications:

• Authorised to live and work as an in-house lawyer in England (or demonstrated ability to timely obtain such authorisation)
• Law degree from an accredited law school with strong academic record.
• Qualified to practice law
• Strong experience in a well-respected law firm and/or corporate legal department
• Versatile legal knowledge and skills, with a strong background in at least one of the following areas: commercial contracts; business litigation and litigation management; complex business transactions; business ethics and compliance; corporate governance; labour & employment
• Business minded attorney, with high degree of business acumen and a strategic thinker
• Ability to combine business and legal judgement to proposed deals, relationships and other matters
• Self-starter who can prioritise workload, self-manage projects with minimal administrative support, handle multiple tasks and meet tight business deadlines whilst consistently making solid judgement calls under pressure
• Critical and independent thinker with excellent judgement and problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate questions and provide alternative outcomes with resulting recommendations
• Must have outstanding leadership, organisational, communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills
• Unquestioned integrity, credibility and judgement. Must maintain the highest ethical standards
• Team player with the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.
• Executive presence that inspires confidence in dealing with complex and critical issues
  
  

Preferred Qualifactions:

• Fluency in English is required. Ability to speak one or more additional languages spoken in the EMEA region is a plus
• Experience working for a global company
• Engaging and willing to be deeply involved in the business
• The ability to participate and add value in strategy meetings with the management team
• Transparent style of communication and operation
